BROWN SUGAR
Brown Sugar is white processed sugar mixed with molasses. In the production of refined white sugar raw sugar syrup is mixed with a heavy syrup and run through a centrifuge to take away the outer coating of the raw sugar crystals. Phosphoric acid and calcium hydroxide are then added to the syrup. The syrup is then filtered through activated carbon to remove the naturally occurring molasses and then crystallized. The syrup is dried to produce white refined sugar.

Brown Sugar is created by adding molasses back to the refined white sugar.

RAW (TURBINADO) SUGAR
Turbinado or Raw Sugar is initially processed in the same way as refined white sugar. The sap or liquid sugars are drawn from the sugar cane. This is where the similarities end. Lime juice is added to the liquid sugar to help settle out impurities. The liquid sugar is reduced through evaporation, then spun in a centrifuge to separate the sugar crystals. The liquid sugar is then dried to produce granules. The brown color of raw sugar is due to the naturally occurring presence of molasses.

At NaturallySweet Desserts we use only organic Raw Sugar, never brown sugar or white refined sugar. We take pride in providing you with products that support a healthy lifestyle and a more natural, organic approach to eating. I hope you find this information helpful. Feel free to post your questions or comments. Until next time,

Peace and blessings

I created this blog to provide my customers with information about eating healthy and to keep them posted on my upcoming events. Every week I will post a new topic. I look forward to your comments and questions.

Last weekend I was a vendor at the International African American Arts Festival in Brooklyn, NY. It was such a pleasure to meet everyone who blessed me by stopping by the NaturallySweet Desserts booth. The Oatmeal Raisin Cookies, Red Velvet Cupcakes and Lemonade with Raw Sugar, Honey and Mint were a hit!! It was so much fun meeting everyone and sharing information about healthy eating and diabetes.

My next event is the Atlantic Antic in September. Please join me at the festivities on Sunday, September 26th.

I look forward to sharing and learning from each other through this blog. Until next time,

Peace and Blessings
